Collaborative Links

The CMA has strong links with other UK universities, overseas academic institutions and both the commercial and curatorial sectors around the world.

Within the University we are linked to Southampton Marine and Maritime Institute where the interdisciplinary nature of maritime archaeology contributes to cutting-edge research.

Working with Industry

The CMA carries out extensive collaborative research with the commercial sector; from Environmental Impact Assessment preparation to advice on data acquisition, interpretation and broader consultation.

MAST: Maritime Archaeology Stewardship Trust

MAST aims to promote maritime archaeology and coastal cultural heritage stewardship in the Arab world (including North and East Africa, the Gulf and the northern Indian Ocean). It operates under the umbrella of the University, raises funds through research, impact grants and cultural heritage promotion and protection agencies, and acts in the capacity of consultant to advise the appropriate heritage bodies in the region.

Intégrité – sailing an Admiral’s gig

In conjunction with Atlantic Challenge Great Britain, the CMA can organize for students and staff to experience working under sail and oar in a traditional, open, wooden vessel with no engine. The 38ft gig is currently based in Lyme Regis.
