Maritime archaeologist currently working on PhD research on Roman warship classifications during the First Punic War (264-241 BC) entitled: Reconstructing Ancient Warships: Classifications and rowing arrangements of ancient Mediterranean galleys). The focus of my research is to analyze and develop an archaeological approach to the study of ancient warships. It aims to combine textual, iconographic, and artifact data to form a better understanding of the typologies used by ancient authors when discussing ancient warships.
I have participated in various underwater projects in the United States and Europe and trained as a surveyor on research vessels. I have presented research at conferences including: SHA, AIA, MAGS. Current project work includes a small grant (2018-2019) from the Honor Frost Foundation to conduct three-dimensional laser scanning of the Marsala Punic Ship to compliment new efforts of study and conservation.
Research Interest: ancient warships, ship construction, 3D documentation and reconstruction, survey, remote sensing
