The MA/MSc in Maritime Archaeology has been designed to give students the best possible instruction, supervision and support in order to further their careers. This might be in commercial or academic archaeology, but also potentially outside of the scope of the discipline. The skills delivered by this degree programme are highly demanding  in terms of academic rigor and the development of practical and logistical capabilities.

Through our taught modules we ensure that graduates from this programme are well trained in cutting edge approaches and techniques: from 3D recording of ship structures, through geophysical and geotechnical analysis of submerged landscape deposits, to clear, concise and professional written communication integrating the latest theoretical and scholarly developments.

All staff teaching on the course are actively involved in discipline defining research, including: Professor Adams’ work on maritime technology and social change,  Dr Blue’s work in the Mediterranean, Asia and the Red Sea and Dr Sturt’s work on maritime prehistory, marine geoarchaeology and submerged landscapes.
